Peace Camp Staff Opportunities

LFFP offers a multitude of ways to get involved in our Peace Camps. Read through the positions below to find the perfect fit for you!

Counselor Positions

Junior Counselor (15-17)

Junior Counselors (JCs) help Counselors and Team Leads guide a group of 10-14 campers during their day, rotating through activities such as art, games, yoga, nature, and more. JCs get the chance to work one-on-one with campers and build strong relationships with the children in their group. JCs should be enthusiastic, compassionate, understanding, inclusive, creative, work well with others, and be willing to learn from mistakes.

Requirements: One year as LFFP Counselor-in-Training or similar experience in caring for children. Apply to be a Junior Counselor by clicking here. 

Counselor (18+)

Under the supervision of their Team Lead, Counselors help lead groups of 10-14 campers during their day rotating through activities such as art, games, yoga, nature, and more. Counselors often lead group projects and can help suggest daily lesson plans. Counselors should be responsible, compassionate, patient, creative, energetic, and work well with others. 

​Requirements: One year as LFFP Junior Counselor or similar experience in caring for children.

Team Lead Positions

Team Lead (18+)

Art Team Lead

Under the supervision of their Team Lead, Counselors help lead groups of 10-14 campers during their day rotating through activities such as art, games, yoga, nature, and more. Counselors often lead group projects and can help suggest daily lesson plans. Counselors should be responsible, compassionate, patient, creative, energetic, and work well with others.

Requirements: Two years as LFFP Counselor or similar experience in caring for children.

The Art Team Lead will head the art activity station that campers rotate through each day. The Art Team Lead will be responsible for meeting with the Camp Coordinator and Camp director prior to the start of all camps to decide on the art projects, create art supply lists, and help with supply shopping. She or he will also be responsible for leading a small team of staff, delegating daily tasks, and ensuring the art space is cared for and cleaned daily. The Art Team Lead is expected to work at and travel to all of the campsites for sessions 1-5.

The ideal candidate for this position will be creative and resourceful while incorporating the themes of camp into interesting and age appropriate projects for youth.

Specialty Positions

Art Counselor/ Junior Counselor

Art Counselors and Junior Counselors are not assigned to small groups, but instead run the Art Station that all age groups rotate through. Art Counselors and Junior Counselors are responsible for explaining daily art projects to visiting small groups, guiding children through projects, and maintaining the art area in a clean and safe manner. Art Counselors can propose projects for the week to the Camp Director and Assistant Director prior to the start of camp and throughout the week as inspiration strikes. The Art Station is a fantastic opportunity for staff to share there creativity with campers.

Cooperative Games Counselor/ Junior Counselor

Cooperative Games is where campers get the chance to learn win-win games where no one is loser and everyone learns to work together. Games Counselors and Junior Counselors are not assigned to small groups, but instead work in the Games Station that all age groups rotate through. Games Counselors and Junior Counselors are responsible for teaching and leading campers in a variety of games that are both athletic and non-competitive as well as promoting a positive and friendly attitude towards working and playing together. Games Counselors will get training prior to camp where they will learn our wide variety of win-win games. The Games Station is a fun opportunity for staff who love moving and have lots energy.

Special Guest

​

Special Guests come to camp to share a specific talent, experience, or gift. Special Guests can either present to the whole camp during opening or closing circle for a short time period, or they can present to each group individually over the course of several hours. Past Special Guests presented drumming, dance, storytelling, cultural experiences, and gardening skills.

Internships

Intern (18+) 

Interning with Peace Camp will require the minimum commitment of 2 weeks. Main responsibilities will include leading or co-leading a group of campers, as a team leader would do, as well as helping behind the scenes with organization, administration, and the possibility of participating in other LFFP programs, such as at the McKenna Center (homeless shelter in DC) and various workshops. Interns may apply as volunteers or arrange class credit with their college or university. This experience would be valuable in particular to future teachers, social workers, child psychologists, and those interested in pursuing degrees in education or peace studies.
 
Requirements: Be enrolled at an accredited college or university, and have similar experience in caring for children. Apply to be an intern by emailing us at littlefriendsforpeace@lffp.org
