Our Mission
Little Friends for Peace teaches peace skills to children and their adult leaders to counter systemic violence. Through an open and responsive approach to our participants’ goals and by fostering connections among participants and partner organizations, we seek to empower a community of peacemakers with the knowledge and strategies for improved intrapersonal, interpersonal, and communal lives.
Our Challenge
From playground put-downs, to family fights, to street crime, to international conflicts, violence builds on itself from the ground up, like a house constructed off-balance, over time and mostly unknowingly. Such ingrained and structural violence must be broken down by learning peace at an early age and practicing it at every age.
The LFFP Vision
Our goal is simple: start early (while recognizing that it is never too late), take a few bricks out, and put a few new bricks in their place. It is an empowering experience to make a house new, strong, and balanced.
When people want everyone to win, when we value health and community, and when we respect our inextricable connection to each other and our earth, then we have the will to use peace skills to tackle the inevitable challenges that will continue to arise.
How You Can Help
Our multiple forms of peace education, including Peace Camps in summer, in prison, in El Salvador and in-school and after-school Peace Clubs, teacher, family and parent workshops, handbooks... are staffed primarily by volunteers trained by MJ & Jerry and supported primarily by donations from individuals and groups. In summer of 2009, we widened our capability by establishing an administrative structure and adding wilderness features to expand our educational reach. To do this, we are currently seeking support to sustainably grow our staff, technology, and program supply resources.
